H5N1infections result in death in Cambodia 31 January 2013

H5N1 avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, is widespread in Cambodia. Since the beginning of 2013, two people in Cambodia have died as a result of the bird fly and two more have become infected. Health authorities in Cambodia say they will step up public awareness campaigns as a result. Since 2005, 24 people have been infected resulting in 21 deaths, according to the World Health Organisation, WHO. Over half of the infections were in children under 14.There were three recorded cases in 2012, all of them fatal.
